Background

Within the Amazon app design a set of features that provides Twitter like functionality.

New features should augment and complement Amazon’s core business, while opening up new possibilities on the platform.

Goal was to integrate Twitter's features into Amazon

Looking at the goal, you may ask "Why?", but we say "Why not?"

And also, this was an academic project.

HIGHLIGHTS

Let me save your time, here are the highlights of the app!

  • Dish about products with your friends group!

  • Get live reviews from Amazon Influencers!

  • Be in Zen-mode & control when you want to be notified

  • Also, we help you stay mindful about expense

  • Influencer's videos - with all the products linked!

  • Get inspired, find your vibe from Community

CONflict

This is a new arena. Two big individual star apps, combining their features is a task.

So, I asked "Can we?"

enable users to share live experiences on amazon?

improve the interactivity of the comments section for a better community experience?

highlight trending products using hashtags?

increase the ease of search for profile based shopping/curated content?

enable group discussion of product buying experience?

include competitor pricing and price-match?

CAN WE?

Turns out, yes! So I moved on to 'How Might We?'

HOW MIGHT WE?

How Might We’s was a constructive exercise - it made us to think of the tasks in the above format so that our goals stay aligned.

THE ACTION

Handsketches, handsketches, handsketchesssss. Helped a great deal.

CLIMAX

Turning these into hi-fidelity prototypes was fun! But the phase 1 was not liked by many users. Here's how I changed them : (You can move the slider to see 'Before' and 'After')

Removed cover picture and gave better structure to the 'Intro' section

Turned the 'Community Chat' option to just 'Friends Chat' due to the concern around open Internet

The extras

  1. None of the interviewed users were aware of 'Amazon's Influencers Program', which was somewhat accessible on the web but buried in the mobile app, prompting me to improve its marketing.

  2. The ‘Categories’ page had 2 search bars. Personally, I felt 2 search bars in a single page seemed unconventional. So I decided to research more if that is acceptable or not.

Two search bars might raise the ambiguity for the users when the display screen is small. And, both the helper texts only say ‘Search’.

I further searched within the Amazon mobile app and found a page with 2 search bars.

RESOLUTION

Looking back, let's see if I covered all the 'How Might We?'
