Designed and developed HuskyHomes to address the struggle international students face finding suitable housing near Northeastern University.
Problem
The HuskyHomes project is designed to solve a major pain point for international students at Northeastern University: the lack of an efficient, user-friendly online portal for house-hunting. Many students struggle with:
Finding good neighborhoods and safe, suitable housing
Connecting with alumni or trusted brokers for advice
Dealing with uncertainty and limited resources
Goal
The goal is to make the housing search process easier, more transparent, and less stressful, so international students can make informed decisions and settle in with confidence.
Platform Features
To make things fairer, I built a ‘Hold’ and ‘In Queue’ system for housing:
1. You can only hold one apartment for 3 days
2. If you don’t commit, it goes to the next person in line
This keeps the process transparent and gives everyone a fair chance.
You can also connect with the Northeastern alumni network - find mentors and friends who’ve lived in your future neighborhood. It’s about more than just a place to stay; it’s about building a supportive community before you even arrive
Next:
A simple MVP to get things rolling - some things aren't complete yet, but the basics are in place. Next: stronger foundation, payments, and a smoother housing experience for international students!
